Top247 DL AJ Hoffler commits to Clemson

Atlanta (Ga.) Woodward Academy Top247 defensive lineman A.J. Hoffler will play his college football at Clemson, announcing his commitment to Dabo Swinney and company Tuesday evening.

Hoffer is commit No. 13 for the ACC Powerhouse in the 2023 cycle, adding to a class that rises two spots to No. 4 in the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Standings.

“What I love was the family feel I got from not just the coaches but players and administration as well,” Hoffler said. He had over 50 offers to choose from. “That’s the only school I’ve been to where the President cares that much about the football program. And I also love Clemson as a school away from football.”

Hoffler took his official visit to Clemson the first weekend of June.

“Something I have to sit back and think about because sometimes I just forget how big of an opportunity all of these schools are and Clemson being right at the very top as far as elite football programs with a very rich history in winning games as well as the defensive line,” Hoffer said.

Clemson insider Cory Fravel also caught up with Hoffler.

“I knew Clemson was the place for me the second time I visited there with my mom,” Hoffler told Fravel. “I chose Clemson because of the family environment and the education and the great relationships I have with the players and coaches. The rich d-line history is definitely something I looked at because they have been right up with the best if not the best for d-line for the NFL in the past couple years.”

As a junior Hoffler racked up 51 tackles including 21 stops for loss, 11 sacks and three forced fumbles. 247Sports National Analyst Cooper Petagna breaks down his game.

“Possesses ideal size at 6-foot-5 and 245-pounds, possesses a thick lower half and growth potential to add additional weight to his frame,” Petagna wrote in his evaluation. “Displays above average athleticism at the five technique.

“Exhibits above average knee bend and hip flexibility in and out of his stance. Flashes a good first step off the line of scrimmage, but has a tendency to be a little late off the ball. Demonstrates good initial foot and body quickness off the line. of scrimmage. Wins with speed and quickness in his pass-rush. Will need to continue to develop play strength and the ability to play through his frame at the point of attack at the next level. Flashes a high motor and good back side pursuit ability. Appears to be adequate in the run game.

“Projects to a five-technique defensive linemen in a base 4-3 defense, already 245-pounds, has the ability to add significant weight to his frame at the next level. Possesses a speed and quickness pass-rush foundation but will need to develop more consistency in his ability to play the run and win with play strength to become a complete defender. Long developing defensive lineman that has the ability to develop into a high level multi-year starter at the Power Five level.”
