STATEN ISLAND, NY — A little rain couldn’t stop thousands of Staten Islanders looking for some delicious grub and outdoor fun this weekend.
Thousands of residents turned out Friday and Saturday for “Food Truck Festival at The Mount” on the grounds of Mount Loretto in Pleasant Plains.
The three-day food fest — which is running again today from 12 to 8 pm — is organized annually by Catholic Charities of Staten Island, in conjunction with Presenting Sponsor Staten Island University Hospital Northwell Health and Community Partner ShopRite.
Joining the more than 4,000 patrons in attendance for delectable local eats were our Advance/SILive.com contest winners for this month’s SILive Experiences event.
“Being a native Staten Islander, the Staten Island Advance has been in our lives since we were little kids,” Heinbockel said. “So it’s great to see they’re giving back to the community and readers like this.”
As a thank you from the Staten Island Advance/SILive.com, we offered our loyal subscribers free VIP tickets to enjoy tastings from every truck in attendance — free of charge!
The group of winners sampled eats from all over the Mount Loretto parking lot — each finding it hard to keep up with the amazing selection.
“I’m stuffed!” laughed Gregory Markow. “Everything here is delicious and it’s really a great time trying it all.”
Claire Atalla, newly appointed CEO of Catholic Charities of Staten Island, said she was honored to make this special tasting happen for our loyal subscribers.
“We’re happy to work with the Staten Island Advance to help make this a day to remember for these local contest winners,” said Atalla. “Local journalism is very important so we’re glad we can give back to these readers.”
Even with some scattered showers, the crowd enjoyed live music performances, rides for children and tented areas for munching and drinking the day away.
“This really was a perfect day,” said Ruthann Sawler, another SILive Experience winner. “Thank you so much for this.”
