The Tampa Bay Lightning will attempt to reach their third consecutive Stanley Cup Final with a win over the New York Rangers in Game 6 on Saturday.
The Lightning are coming off a 3-1 win over the Rangers in Game 5 on Thursday. With 1:50 remaining in the third period, Tampa Bay winger Ondrej Palat deflected the game-winning goal past goaltender Igor Shesterkin off a shot from the blue line courtesy of defenseman Mikhail Sergachev. The game had been deadlocked at 1-1 throughout the third period.
Over the past three games, Palat has registered three goals and two assists, which includes a three-point performance in Tuesday’s Game 4 victory.
Now the Lightning will have a chance to advance to the Stanley Cup Final for a third consecutive season on their home ice in Game 6. Tampa Bay has a 8-2 all-time record when leading 3-2 in a best-of- seven series. In addition, Lightning are attempting to erase a 2-0 series deficit in a conference final for the second time in franchise history.
Meanwhile, the Rangers have just a 2-7 record when playing on the road during the 2022 postseason. Game 5 marked the first time in the entire series that the home team lost, so the Rangers will need to keep that trend going in order to keep their season alive.
