Oklahoma defeats Texas in Game 2 to win sixth championship in program history
They’ve had a bullseye on their back all season long, but they’ve also been head and shoulders above the rest in a sport they dominate. And now the Oklahoma Sooners get to hoist the trophy they’ve worked for and expected to hold all year.
No. 1 Oklahoma defeated unranked Texas, 10-5, in Game 2 of the Women’s College World Series on Thursday night to win the program’s sixth national championship. It was the most scored runs in a national championship-clinching win since 2010 when UCLA beat Arizona 15-9 in Game 2 to sweep their best-of-three series.

Back-to-back titles
The Sooners are the first school to win consecutive softball national titles since… Oklahoma in 2016-17. Before that it hadn’t been done since Florida in 2014-15 and Arizona in 2006-07.

Third-best single-season win percentage in NCAA softball history
Oklahoma finishes with a 59-3 record this season (.952 win pct), the third-best single-season win percentage in NCAA softball history and the best since Arizona finished 64-3 in 1994. (1992 UCLA has the top mark at 54-2).

Good company
This is Oklahoma’s sixth softball national championship, third most all-time behind only UCLA (13) and Arizona (8). No other school has more than two.

Texas blasts a three-run homerun to stay alive
I’m right by the Texas dugout, and I can tell you this team is still pretty fired up after the call was overturned and ruled a three-run home run.
