The trio of national powers leads the way with three selections each on the preseason All-America squad. NDSU is the defending national champion, but Montana has two returning Athlon All-Americans in linebacker Patrick O’Connell and cornerback Justin Ford, and SDSU returns one in tight end Tucker Kraft.
VMI linebacker Stone Snyder is a two-time Athlon All-American already. Stephen F. Austin wide receiver Xavier Gipson and Florida A&M edge rusher Isaiah Land, the reigning Buck Buchanan Award recipient, return from the 2021 All-America squad, while Portland State cornerback Anthony Adams was on the 2019 squad.
