We have good news for cats, dogs, and the owners who love them. A new veterinary clinic is coming later this summer in Jersey City, increasing the number of vets in the Hudson County area. Opening at 229 10th Street, Sage Veterinary Center will offer many services for pet owners — all thanks to the two veterinarians behind the development of the center. Read on to learn more about Sage Veterinary Center, coming to Jersey City soon.
How Sage Vet Came About
Sage Veterinary Center was founded by two former colleagues, Ashley Beard and Kira Purdon, who worked together in general practice (for humans) in New York City. The founders are both passionate about making connections with their clients and realized that there was “definitely a need in the area” to expand vet clinics.
Ashley, who’s been in practice for about seven years and worked at two different clinics in the past, told Hoboken Girl, “We both love Jersey City, love the area and the community. We work very closely with a lot of local rescue groups, and we just wanted to bring high quality, customizable medicine to the local community.”

Kira, who just moved to Jersey City two years ago, added, “I instantly knew that Jersey City was such a special place because it was so community focused and small business oriented… I needed a way to make a mark and also find a way to contribute back to it. I was like, ‘We gotta do this.’ We’re both very excited.”

The women-owned business first brought awareness to the community back in February 2022 when they launched Sage’s social media account. The announcement post reads: “Sage Veterinary Center Coming to Jersey City Summer 2022!!”
Kira, who has a dog and a cat (and a newborn!), and Ashley, who has three cats from JerseyCats, share a common special interest — — helping animals with chronic illness and pain management. “They’re just so poorly managed all the time and no one speaking to them, so they both hold near and dear to our hearts,” the Sage Vet founders told H.G.
The new animal clinic will provide a variety of services, including annual and preventative medicine, urgent and emergency pet care, preventative and advanced dentistry services, diagnostics, specialty surgeries, geriatric and hospice care, and travel certificates.

“We’ll have general exam care, annual visits, vaccines, but also be able to take care of sick pets in every way with ultrasound, x-ray capability, surgery, dentistry,” Kira said. “One of the big things that speaks to us is we really believe in an integrated [therapy] approach. I do acupuncture and Ashley has been trained in rehab therapy, so we’re actually going to have a rehab center at the bottom of the facility that allows us to actually help dogs that are elderly or suffering from injuries.”

Coming This Summer
The owners hope to have Sage Veterinary Center open by the first week of September. The clinic, which is still under construction, will be running on limited hours: Monday through Friday from 9AM to 6PM, Saturday from 10AM to 1PM, and closed on Sundays.
Patients are advised to book an appointment online once appointments open up since it’s not a walk-in facility. Sage will be partnering with VEG (Veterinary Emergency Group) in Hoboken for after hours calls.
“We are having Swimclub Studio do our design of our space. It’s overall gonna be a very clean, nice design that’s meant to be very comforting. All of the rooms are going to have different personalities and there’ll be a lot of plants throughout. It’ll be a nice feeling place; not necessarily cold or sterile in any way,” the owners shared. “We want to avoid your typical clinical feel and in a way that makes animals and owners more comfortable when they’re there.”
